FIRST LOOK: Ferrari 12Cilindri – Silly Name, Crazy 820bhp V12!
The Italian language is very good – molto bene – at turning simple car names into lyrical poetry. ‘Four doors’ becomes ‘Quattroporte’. ‘Red head’ becomes ‘Testarossa’. And so, while this new Ferrari is called the 12 Cylinder, Maranello would prefer you wrapped your lips around their way of talking, and called it the Dodici Cilindri. (But, Because Marketing, the name is written out as 12Cilindri.) It’s an on-the-nose celebration of Ferrari’s signature dish: a big V12. A mighty 6.5-litre instrument, mounted way behind the front axle, and under a gigantic clamshell ‘cofango’ bonnet designed to showcase the engine bay more dramatically than the 812 Superfast or F12. Job done… Looks wise, there are hints of 365 Daytona at the front. There are also active aero flaps at the rear. Inside, Ferrari’s gone fully screen-gaga and deleted all the buttons. Good luck tuning the radio when 814bhp arrives at the rear wheels before the tyres are warm ‘n’ sticky. Unusually, Ferrari has revealed the €425,000 Spider drop-top along with the €390,000 coupe. FIRST LOOK: Porsche Taycan Turbo GT – Smashes Tesla’s Lap Record AGAIN!
The Porsche Taycan Turbo S is already absurdly fast – but now it’s been beaten. By Porsche. To battle the likes of the Tesla Model S Plaid and Lucid Air Sapphire, Stuttgart has cooked up the Taycan Turbo GT, capable of 0-62mph in as little as 2.2 seconds. Yep. Absurd. It remains dependent on a dual-motor (rather than tri-motor) set-up, but can generate up to 1,108hp in its ‘Attack’ mode, and go all the way to 190mph. It’s lapped the Nürburgring in 7mins 7sec and has now destroyed Tesla’s record around California’s best racetrack: Laguna Seca. Top Gear’s Ollie Kew was there to witness the record being set, give a tour of the new super-Taycan, and have a passenger ride in the record car with Porsche’s lap time hero, Lars Kern. It’s a hugely impressive machine (the Turbo GT, not Lars), but is it one the world actually needed? FIRST DRIVE: Lucid Gravity – 1,000bhp Tesla Model X Rival
You'll know Lucid from its ultra-spacious, slippery Air saloon, which can hit 60 in 1.9 seconds and is very probably the best-handling electric family car on sale today. 10 out of 10, no notes. So, how does the new Gravity SUV – Lucid's difficult second album – stack up? Well, it's a little early for a full drive (stick around for a drive of the prototype later in the video) but here's what we do know. It'll use the next generation of Lucid tiny-but mighty bespoke motors. There’s a 900-volt architecture for fast charging speeds, and it'll be able to accelerate to 60mph in less than 3.5sec in the quicker versions. Base models will start from $74k, with 'around 800bhp.' We’ve got our hands on every performance version of the Model S and Model X. From the P100D through to the Plaid, these are the six quickest Teslas money can buy. The question is, just how different is their performance? Let’s start with how they compare on paper. The Model S P100D rolls up with dual motors that combine to produce 671hp and 950Nm of torque. It tips the scales at around 2,100kg. As for the Model X P100D, its two motors combine for 534hp and 755Nm, and it’s a fair bit heavier than the Model S, weighing in at around 2,500kg. Then we have the Ravens. Both come with dual motors, and both the Model S & Model X produce 778hp and 1,140Nm. However, while the Model S weighs 2,255kg, the Model X comes in at 2,552kg. Then finally we have the Plaids. Both cars have ti-motors, and both produce 1,020hp and 1,420Nm. But just like the Raven, while the Model S weighs in at 2,190kg, the Model X is a whole lot heavier, coming in at 2,464kg.
