PASSENGER IN CHELSEA TRACTOR CAUGHT DOING 94MPH HAD BABY ON THEIR LAP

A person with an unrestrained baby on their lap was among the passengers in a car driving at 94mph on a road in Hertfordshire, police have said.

Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire road policing unit caught the VW Tiguan speeding along the A41 in Hemel Hempstead.

When officers pulled the seven-seater vehicle over, they discovered it was packed full of family members.

They included someone in a rear seat who was holding the baby on their lap.

A picture of the car was posted to the unit’s Twitter account, showing the speed recorded on the officer’s sensor.

The tweet said: ‘This vehicle was spotted doing 94mph on the A41 in Hemel Hempstead.

‘When stopped I found the 7 seater to be full of family members including an unrestrained baby on the rear passengers lap.

‘Driver reported and suitable words of advice given.’

Later in the day, the police posted another picture of a car that had been caught travelling at 161mph in the Luton area.

A tweet from the unit said: ‘This indefensible speed recorded means they will be explaining their actions in court.’

Earlier this year, a laundry delivery driver from London was facing 81 penalty points after he was caught speeding 22 times in just three weeks.

Peter McPherson, 58, admitted committing the offences on a 30mph stretch of the A40 Westway flyover between July 15 and August 1, 2022.
