FLYING CAR THAT CAN REACH OVER 155MPH IN THE AIR COULD COME TO MARKET IN 2026

The flying cars promised to us in The Jetsons may now be reality rather soon.

The idea of a personal vehicle capable of flight has sounded like the perfect remedy for motorists stuck in long lines of traffic everyday on their commute. However, the physics and economics just seemed out of reach.

That may no longer be the case as the AirCar, from Slovakian company Klein Vision, could hit the commercial market next year. The firm's first iteration of the hybrid between car and aeroplane was given an official Certificate of Airworthiness by the Slovak Transport Authority (EASA), with over 200 takeoffs and landings at the time.

The prototype even successfully carried out a 35-minute inter-city journey from Nitra to Bratislava. The second model is set to be tested this summer and could hit the market soon.

The specs of the vehicle sound tantalising. It can has a top speed of 124mph on the road and 154mph in the air with a flight range of 620 miles. But the cherry on top has to be the wings and tail extend when the car is switched to air mode.

However, AirCar 2 is not affordable with estimates set at $800,000 to $1million. It comes as Klein Vision founder Stefan Klein was awarded the Special Recognition Award for Engineering Excellence by the Living Legends of Aviation.

He said: "Receiving this recognition from the Living Legends of Aviation is a tremendous honour and a humbling milestone," Stefan Klein said in a statement. "The AirCar fulfils a lifelong dream to bring the freedom of flight into the hands of everyday people.

"With the launch of our production prototype, we are one step closer to transforming how the world moves – merging the road and the sky into a new dimension of personal mobility."
