Chinese car manufacturers are dominating the UK’s new car market and it shows no sign of stopping.

Over the last few years there have been more than 20 new manufacturers arrive on our shores, with models offering lots of standard kit, cutting-edge battery technology and value for money.

The Chinese cars on this list provide the best bang for your buck, they’re stylish, affordable, practical and are on par with their European rivals when it comes to driving dynamics.

So, with that in mind, we’ve compiled a list of the best Chinese cars you can buy in the UK today.

BYD Dolphin Surf

The compact electric city car segment is growing and the BYD Dolphin Surf is a great all-round option.

It’s BYD’s smallest car and rivals the Renault 5 and Hyundai Inster. Available with a choice of two batteries, the first offers a 30kWh unit that’s good for a claimed 137 miles between trips to plug, while the larger 43kWh setup can take the car a claimed 200 miles.

Inside, the cabin feels well screwed together, there’s space for four and all cars come with vegan leather seats and a 10.1-inch infotainment system.

The Dolphin Surf feels most at home in town with its light steering, tight turning circle and good all-round visibility.

BYD Seal

Another BYD on this list is the firm’s Seal electric four-door saloon which rivals the BMW i5.

Behind the wheel, the Seal provides impressive driving dynamics thanks to its sharp handling, well-tuned suspension and sporty chassis.

Inside, the quality of the materials is on par with its German rival and all cars come with a decent amount of standard kit with a 15.6-inch infotainment system, a panoramic glass roof and a 12-speaker Dynaudio premium sound system.

All Seals are equipped with an 82.5kWh battery pack, while the rear-wheel drive entry-level car is fitted with a single electric motor to give a claimed range of up to 354 miles.

The flagship Excellence variant is fitted with dual electric motors that produces 523bhp and can deliver a claimed range of up to 323 miles.

Changan Deepal S07

Changan is a relatively new brand here in the UK and the Deepal S07 was its first model.

The Deepal S07 is a good-looking SUV with a premium-feeling cabin, while prices come in at £39,990 for the entry-level model.

All variants of the S07 are packed full of tech, including a head-up display, 20-inch alloy wheels, a panoramic glass sunroof, a 15.6-inch infotainment system and a 40W wireless smartphone charger.

The S07 is also good to drive, refined and provides plenty of interior space for a family to make this a worthy contender in the midsize SUV class.

MG4 Urban

The MG4 Urban is all about value for money and this new electric hatchback is a great choice.

The Standard Range car is fitted with a 41.9kWh battery pack and an electric motor to deliver a claimed 201 miles, while the Long Range model is equipped with a 53.9kWh battery and electric motor that can deliver a claimed 258 miles between charges.

The Urban also provides lots of interior space thanks to the car’s tall roofline and all variants come as standard with a reversing camera, a 12.8-inch infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto as well as black and grey fabric upholstery.

MG HS

The MG HS is one of Britain’s best-selling cars thanks to its sharp looks, practical interior and efficient powertrain options.

Its cabin is vast, offering tonnes of rear-seat space with plenty of head, leg and kneeroom for average-sized adults. The interior materials feel high quality and all cars come with lots of on-board tech as standard.

Under the bonnet, the HS can be specced with petrol, hybrid and plug-in hybrid powertrains.

The PHEV variant is the pick of the bunch as it uses a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine mated to an electric motor and 24.7kWh battery pack that can take the car up to a claimed 75 miles on electric power.

XPeng G6

XPeng started out in 2014 as a Chinese technology company and 12 years later, it’s now selling cars in the UK.

The G6 was the first model to arrive as a direct rival to the Tesla Model Y, but has a more premium-feeling interior and just as much on-board tech.

Behind the wheel, the G6 is a comfortable, refined and easy-to-drive proposition that ticks all of the right boxes if you need an EV that can cover lots of miles.

The Standard Range 66kWh car is mated to a single rear-mounted electric motor that delivers a claimed range of up to 292 miles, while the Long Range model is hooked up to an 80kWh unit that can manage a claimed 326 miles.

Furthermore, there is a hot ‘Performance’ model that uses the same 80kWh setup as the Long Range car, but has a dual-motor setup that produces a total of 486bhp and can hit 60mph in 3.9 seconds.

All XPeng G6s come with an 800-volt architecture which enables ultra-rapid 451kW DC charging speeds. That means a 10 to 80 per cent top-up can be completed in just 12 minutes.
